Current and Upcoming Micro Weddings and Elopement Trends
The global coronavirus pandemic has forced many couples to think outside of the box when it comes to their upcoming wedding plans. With many venues and businesses closed, impending nuptials have had to be postponed and couples may be worried about when and how they can have the wedding of their dreams. This is where micro weddings and elopements come into play. Fortunately, we have seen couples and their wedding planners get creative so their perfect wedding day can still happen with a little ingenuity.
Micro weddings and elopements are becoming very popular and trendy compared to the large weddings a few months ago. No longer do brides or grooms have to worry about how many relatives and friends to invite. Nor do they have to worry about finding the largest venue available with plenty of space.
Some current trends that are shaping weddings of the future include:
.
Trend #1: Livestreamed Virtual/Hybrid Weddings
Safely inviting numerous guests is no longer feasible, at least until there is a vaccine for COVID-19. Virtual conferencing apps like Zoom, Skype, Instagram Live, and others are being used by many innovative couples who want to include everyone on their special day – but safely. Some type of live stream, whether it be done professionally or more DIY, will likely become a more common occurrence at weddings.
Trend #2: Hosting of Smaller Groups of 50 – 100 People
When venues do start reopening, expect there to be a reduction in capacity limits even though the venues can accommodate a lot more people. Weddings will likely be scaled back to groups of 50 to 100 guests or broken up into smaller groups throughout a venue (imagine 25-50 people per smaller function space/ballroom) to be able to maintain social distancing.
Trend #3: Wedding Today – Reception Tomorrow
Some couples are eloping because they do not want to wait to get married. They are perfectly happy waiting to celebrate with a reception later, once it is safe for them to gather with their family and friends. Why not have a fabulous and romantic elopement now and a great party a later date.
Trend #5: A Focus on Micro for Macro Results
Hand-lettered place cards, elegant floral centerpieces, and personalized wedding favors can have a big impact for micro weddings. By paring down the guest list to immediate family and close friends, the bride and groom can host a more intimate tailored reception. Couples can also choose to help boost local economies by working with small businesses in their community to help add even more meaning to their special day.
Trend #6: More Entertainment
Formalities that have historically eaten up a lot of time such as receiving lines or extended family photoshoots will no longer be a thing. This will either mean that weddings will be shorter or more games and entertainment will be used throughout to keep people engaged and entertained. Personalized and interactive entertainment will be more in demand then ever. From personalized poem writing for each guest, to interactive all request and karaoke bands entertainment will be a big trend in micro weddings.
