Wedding and Event Planning 101: Booking Entertainment

Wedding and Event Planning 101: Booking Entertainment

Whether you are planning your wedding, celebrating a retirement or other special private occasion, or an upcoming charity fundraiser or corporate event, the difference between a function and an actual celebration is the entertainment! A live band, DJ, or other entertainer can help set the tone for the event and lets your guests know exactly what sort of experience that can look forward to as the evening unfolds. Entertainers are often the difference that has your guests talking for weeks, months, and even years later, long after the event about how fun, exciting, and memorable their experiences were. Who you hire largely depends upon the mood you want to create. There is a big difference between a band that specializes in Jazz to a band or DJ that plays current top 40 hits and dance songs. Furthermore, to create truly memorable events, your entertainer must know how to read your guests and anticipate their needs. This ability is not something that is learned overnight and requires years of expertise performing in front of live audiences. Those entertainers that are able to pull off this feat, not only astounds you, but also your guests. The Two Most Important Pieces of Information You Need to Know First and foremost, and probably the most important, book your entertainment through a qualified and experienced wedding and event entertainment agency, like us, here at Fusion Events. The reason you want to use an agency is because it makes the selection process much easier and provides you access to a wide array of live bands, DJs, and other entertainers. An agency has already researched their...

Toronto Wedding Planners Offer Tips for Planning a Wedding Quickly

Toronto Wedding Planners Offer Tips for Planning a Wedding Quickly

Your loved one proposed on Valentine’s Day and surprised you with a romantic evening and stunning engagement ring. We wish you congratulations on your engagement! You and your fiancée might have decided you do not want a long engagement period, but instead are ready to start your married life now. Whether you have been cohabitating, or simply dislike waiting a long time, and want to say your “I do’s” as soon as possible, you can plan a charming and elegant wedding in three months or sooner. Please keep in mind you probably won’t get that highly sought after wedding venue that has a 12-month waiting period, but you can still pull off a beautiful wedding and share it with your friends and family. Tip #1: Schedule a meeting with a Toronto Wedding Planner Your wedding planner will help you address the basics: The Venue Selecting an Officiant Size of the Event Budget Setting a Date Choosing the Entertainment Finding Wedding Vendors, and More! Because you are in hurry to get married, it is a good idea to have more than one selection for each item, as you first choice may not be available. Rather, you will want to have at least three different choices in mind ranked accordingly. Tip #2: Get wedding invitations sent out ASAP If you are going with a 2 or 3-month time frame, there is time to get paper wedding invitations out in the mail. Another great option is to use Paperless Post to create and send out digital invitations electronically. Rather than ask for an RSVP via the postal service, request guests email you...
Make Your Wedding Legal with Help from Toronto Marriage & Proposal Planners

Make Your Wedding Legal with Help from Toronto Marriage & Proposal Planners

Congratulations on your engagement! Hopefully your proposal was everything you dreamed of and your fiancée took the time to get advice from an experienced wedding and proposal planner in Toronto. Now that you are engaged, there are several things you will have to do before your special day to ensure you can be legally married. Whether you are planning your wedding venue at a location in the Greater Toronto Area or are leaning towards a destination wedding at some exotic location, you will still need to complete these items before walking down the aisle and saying your “I dos.” 1. File for a marriage license. In order to make the marriage legal, you need a license. In many cases, only one person has to submit the application for the license. However, you may have to appear in person and provide documentation including: Passport Driver License Birth Certificate Citizenship Card Immigrations/IMM Forms Permanent Resident Card It is recommend to call ahead to find out exactly what documents you need, as well as the cost to submit the application, which is currently $140. The application fee is nonrefundable and is considered a “valid” document once you receive it. However, the license will expire in three months if you are not married within this time. 2. Book your wedding’s officiant. Whether you choose a marriage commissioner or a religious professional, you will want to make sure one is available for your special day. Not only do they perform your ceremony, but are also responsible for signing the marriage license. TIP: If your wedding is on a prime day or time, like on...
WEDLUXE Show 2017

WEDLUXE Show 2017

WEDLUXE Wedding Show 2017 My Top 5 Things At This Year’s Show This was my second year attending the WEDLUXE’s show in Toronto. This year’s show was hosted at the same location as it was in 2016, the beautiful Carlu, at the corner of Yonge & Carlton/College. Like last year there were many similar faces as well as some new ones. This year the theme seemed to be Gold and Marble, which makes perfect sense since the rise of gold last year which definitely stuck with the wedding community. Another stylistic attribute is this a mix of Art Deco design with a tropical twist to it. This could be something as simple as a including a Gold Pineapple in your to your Gatsby style wedding! If you ask anyone who attended, what they thought was the most mind blowing thing they saw, it would without a doubt be the 10 tier chapel style cake made by Fine Cakes by Zehra. Not only was that the most jaw dropping cake at the show, but will ultimately be the most extravagant cake I will ever encounter in my professional career! That being said, that’s not what I’m here to talk to you about. What I want to talk about is some of the businesses/booths that caught my eye, and stood out for me.  Here are 5 companies that really wow’ed me at this year’s show:   New Vintage Media Maybe it was their rustic looking booth with Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling and grainy film footage of a wedding playing the background, or maybe it was their warm personalities, but I immediately got a good vibe walking...
Got Engaged during the Holidays? What You Need to Do Next

Got Engaged during the Holidays? What You Need to Do Next

So your beloved popped the big question as you shared a romantic moment on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or even New Year’s Eve! So, now that you have said “yes,” while reveling in the excitement of spending your future’s together, there are specific things you need to do next. Don’t worry, these are not painstaking processes and most of them are fun and enjoyable for both you and your fiancé! 1. Call your parents and relatives. If your parents were not part of the proposal, before heading over to Facebook and updating your status to engaged, or sending out a blast Tweet to everyone of your Twitter followers, it is best to call those family and friends that mean the most to you and tell them over the phone or better, face-to-face. 2. Have your engagement ring sized and insured. Your fiancé might have guessed on the ring size so it might require a little adjusting to fit your finger properly. Since you will want to show off your new ring, make sure your fiancé already had it appraised and insured. 3. Schedule an appointment to have your hands manicured. Since everyone will be checking out the new fancy ring on your finger, you want your hands to also look their best! Plus, it can be fun to get both a manicure and pedicure with your partner. 4. Savor this special time. Just because you got engaged, does not mean you are heading off to the wedding chapel next week. Enjoy your engagement and the romance of being able to spend the rest of your lives together, before jumping...
Office Christmas Party Tips

Office Christmas Party Tips

Every single year, Christmas creeps up before you even know it! People try to fight it, either by explaining how Christmas shouldn’t be a thing until December comes around, or by rolling their eyes anytime they see Christmas decorations. But if life has taught us anything, is that there’s no escaping Christmas. You see, on October 31st, at 12:00 am, that’s when Christmas really starts. Whether or not there’s snow on the ground, Christmas is a two month ordeal full of happiness, snow, and overpriced gingerbread lattes. There’s really no point in fighting it. Sure, maybe you can convince yourself that Christmas isn’t even close in the very beginning of November, but as December gets closer, and snow starts falling, the signs are unmistakable. All you have to do is turn on that one radio station that only plays Christmas music, cozy up with a peppermint coffee, and start thinking of how broke you’re going to be after you do all your Christmas shopping. Trust us, it’s better that way. You really can’t be sad when all you’ve had to drink or eat for an entire month is eggnog. You’ll know that there’s really no escaping this winter hell wonderland when your office announces its annual Christmas party. Now last year you may have gotten away with pretending to be sick, and the year before that your ‘sister’ conveniently got ‘sick’. But this year, you’ve become friendly with all the other employees (and your boss threatened to fire you if you don’t come), so you really don’t have much of a choice. Right about now you’re probably thinking of...

How to Plan a Successful Company Holiday Party for Your Employees

The holiday season has begun and now is the time where business owners, companies, and corporations start planning and preparing for their holiday parties. It is important to not wait until the last minute, otherwise, you may run into an issue with several of your employees unable to attend due to other holiday commitments. Step 1 Pick a Date and Time Even if you do not yet have a venue selected, you need to let your employees know the date and time of the company holiday party. Ask employees to RSVP with a head count for their spouses, partners, and children. If you are noticing a lot of employees are declining, take the time to find out why. If it is because they have another commitment, you may want to consider and alternative date so you have a bigger turn out. Step 2 Enlist the Services of a Professional Toronto Corporate Event Planner Retaining the services of an event planner will help you avoid becoming overwhelmed and stressed with all of the finer details that need to be taken care of to make your holiday party the one everyone will be talking about long after. Your event planner has the connections you need, for instance, caterers, entertainers, decorators, photographers, and so on. Rather than having to waste time searching for these vendors, your event planner is pleased to make recommendations and arrange meetings to discuss your needs. Step 3 Select a Venue Based upon the number of people attending the event, you should choose a venue able to easily accommodate all of your guests. If you really want the...
Top 5 Winter Wedding Trends

Top 5 Winter Wedding Trends

TOP 5 WINTER WEDDING TRENDS 2017 Yes folks, it’s that time of year once again (cue “Ice Ice Baby”), Winter!! Ahhh yes the dustings of snow on bare trees, over-sized sweaters and the unforgettable numb feeling in your toes. Also a very under-rated time for weddings. Not only can it be more cost-affordable to get hitched in the winter, but it can also be hella’ romantic while leaving room for a lot of originality!! This Blog is for all you Winter Brides WARNING: after reading this blog you may get the sudden urge to plan a winter wedding. Don’t Panic!! The Top Toronto Wedding Planners  are here…you’re all good! Long Sleeve Wedding Dresses are both practical and sexy. If you want to fore-go the coat or jacket, opt for long sleeves. These sleeves can be lace for some added exposure or can be classic silk with a lowered back line for added drama. In recent years we have definately seen a resurrgance of the long sleeve wedding dress (Holla Kate Middleton)!   This can include jewled headbands or a more natural green headpiece. If you are going for the classic “winter wonderland” theme, a jewled headband will add that WOW factor. If you are diving into the “natural” inspired décor (which we will get to below), this headpiece can be a stunning accent that will set the organic tone for your day. A great place to search for affordable headpieces would be Etsy.   Obviously due to colder weather an outer layer of clothing is required for the bride and her bridesmaids, especially if pictures are to be taken outside (which...

Tips to Make You the Best Groom Ever

Tips to Make You the Best Groom Ever

When people talk about preparing for their wedding and meeting with Toronto wedding planners, they often picture an overly excited bride-to-be, with her beloved sitting there simply nodding his head in agreement to her every whim. For some grooms, they picked out the ring, asked the big question, got a resounding “YES!” so now they can sit back, relax, and show up on the day of their wedding. Get Involved! In all honestly, most grooms have a vision for how they picture their wedding days, too. Before you take a back seat to your wedding band Toronto, and risk your fiancée turning into a bridezilla, take the time to consider the following tips and how your involvement can ensure you both will enjoy and cherish your special day. Take part in gift registries. Consider this, with gift registries, you get to wander around stores and pick out things you want that your friend and relatives will probably purchase for you. What could be better? Sure you might have to compromise on the power tools or man-cave setup you want in exchange for kitchen appliances, but if you want to get new furniture, that wide screen HD TV, or other items make sure you go along when it is time to do the wedding registry. Get outside help from a certified wedding planner in Toronto. Sure, it might sound fun to let your fiancée and her closest friends take care of planning every detail of the wedding, but this can lead to problems. Plus, if either of your mothers wants to get involved, family conflict is right around the corner....
Fusion Events Wins “Top Event Planners In The GTA” Four Years In A Row

Fusion Events Wins “Top Event Planners In The GTA” Four Years In A Row

We are proud to announce that Fusion Events has been named “Top Event Planners in the Greater Toronto Area” for 2016,  at the 11th annual Top Choice Awards. This is the fourth consecutive year Fusion Events has been nominated and taken home the gold in this category. It is such an honour to get recognition from our peers and clients. This year’s Top Choice Awards were held at the Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel, and celebrated the awards’ 11th year running. By far, this year’s extravaganza was bigger than ever. The night started off with a cocktail portion with numerous food stations, magicians, live model statues, photo booths, plus a vodka ice bar. Not to mention an opportunity to rub elbows with some of the best entrepreneurs across Canada and North America. Following the cocktail portion, guests were invited in to the reception area situated in the Fairmont Royal York’s beautiful Ballroom, where we were lavished with a four course meal, plus wide range of live entertainment including: Tropicana Queens – Brazilian samba dancers, Pavlo – a mediterranean guitarist, Axé Capoeira – a Brazilian martial arts show featuring a drum line, and Fusion Event’s very own BPM Krew as the house band for the night. This would be BPM Krew’s second year as the chosen house band for the Top Choice Awards. Before the night was to kick off, we were given an inspirational toast from Top Choice Awards founder David Sylvester, CEO & Monica Couto, President. Many of us wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for the on going support and recognition these two have built over the past decade. The Top Choice Awards...
Chic Halloween Decor

Chic Halloween Decor

Your Trendy Halloween Who said that Halloween has to be a corny holiday that exists solely for the enjoyment of children, century old witches and zombies? What if I want my home to experience the fun that is holiday décor but I’m hesitant to dust my pad with bright orange knick-nacts and motion activated figurines? Using the art of Pinterst, I have outlined three major household areas where hallo-chic can come to life! After following the tips and inspirational photos below, you will have the confidence to host the most authentic  halloween party or be sufficiently content hanging out on your couch, basking in your beautifully decorated home! Before we get started: Black, Grey and Metallic colours go a long way! Orange colours can certainly be used but we want this to remain as a featured colour or accent, rather than the main event. Less is more. Front Door Pumpkins are definitely a must, for they establish an initial holiday ambiance for all guests! Use miniature pumpkins, which are more cost affordable, and go to town with some paint! Use white, black or metallic paint for added chicness (make sure you paint the pumpkin with sealer or varnish beforehand to ensure the paint actually sticks)! These painted pumpkins can be used all over your house! Don’t get me wrong, the traditional “Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” can make an appearance, but we want to steer clear of using solely robust pumpkins! The dried corn stalk is always a good choice, this neutral piece adds height and diversity! The use of lanterns is another great accessory to any front door! As seen above these lanterns can be...

Wedding Cake Alternatives

Wedding Cake Alternatives

For years, brides and their bakers have come together to create elaborate works of art. These unique pieces stood 18 inches tall, were lathered in fondant, and often ended up in guest’s fridges. (Yes I’m talking about wedding cakes). But what if you don’t want traditional for your wedding? Why not consider the alternative(s)?! Don’t get me wrong, traditional wedding cakes continue to be a relevant choice for today’s brides with the possibility to be cost effective, but I am not a fan of “one size fits all.” And you ask, “But Dini, where to start!?” No stress! We chatted with Dayna, owner of Toronto’s fabulous Bite Me Bakery, she gave us insight into the world of alternative wedding cakes! From this conversation I gathered photos of popular alternative cake choices and concluded on a few pros and cons for each! Multi-Level Macaron Display PROS: Opportunity to coordinate colour scheme to match wedding colour palette Unique silhouette for modern bride No “cake-cutting” fee from venue CONS: Niche dessert choice that may not be a favourite to all Display needs to be fairly large; Possibly needing other dessert choices Costly to make (due to the almond flour) Cupcake Tower with One-Tier Mini Cake PROS: Allows newlyweds to perform traditional “Cutting of the cake” Various cake flavour choices (something for everyone) Deemed the “most popular” choice amongst the alternatives CONS: Lots of detail and time required Possibly extra cost in more deserts Display needs to be fairly large if no other desert choices are present Sweets Table PROS: Liberty to have a variety of choices for guests (Popular choices include: Pie, squares, tarts, candy) No “cake-cutting” fee from...

Tips for Planning Successful Corporate Events

The fall is normally the start of the time of year for corporate events in the GTA. The weather is a bit cooler, so it allows for events to be held outdoors easier. From new product launches to fundraising events and everything in between, in order to have a successful event, take the time to review the following tips and suggestions, presented by top Toronto corporate events planners, Fusion Events. 1. Determine the target audience. Knowing your target audience will help you develop and achieve specific objectives and goals, as well as remain focused on the scope of the event. 2. Establish a budget. Unless you have no limit on the amount you want to spend, you need to set a budget. 3. Schedule an appointment with a corporate events planner in Toronto. Working with the experienced event planners at Fusion Events gives you access to numerous resources, like caterers, entertainers, videographers, photographers, and other professionals to ensure your corporate event is a success. 4. Another popular theme during the month of October is Halloween. When choosing a theme, just remember to keep the main objectives for the event in mind. 5. Check conflicts with other industry/corporate events before setting a date and time. One of your objectives for a successful event is to have the majority of your invitees at the event. Have your event planner verify there are no other events that might take people away from yours. Also...
Organizing Your Dream Destination Wedding

Organizing Your Dream Destination Wedding

Thanks to our friend Martin Commins from Bespoke Diamonds, with his infographic on “Organizing your Dream Destination Wedding”, we got the inside scoop on how destination weddings are a rising trend and it’s here to stay. In this blog, I’ll be dissecting this graphic to give you more insight on their statistics. Destination Wedding Statistics Most people think that having a wedding abroad would be more the expensive choice, but on average the cost of a destination wedding is $8,800 compared to the latter of domestic weddings, which are $30,000. Just like domestic weddings, there are peak months for couples to get married. For weddings abroad, the most popular month would be May (which in most places would have very beautiful weather) following by June and July. Typically, after you get married you start your honeymoon/vacation, but with destination weddings, once you get on that plane to get to your location, the vacation begins! With that being said, on average the couple will stay at their destination for 7 days, with their guests staying 4 days. Fun fact: Destination weddings now account for 24% of the wedding market. Typical Locations for Destination Weddings A few out of the many reasons couples choose to do destination weddings are beautiful scenery, it’s hugely romantic, gorgeous weather and the culture. As the list grows each year, several countries that have peaked a lot of couples interest for their weddings are: Argentina Canada Croatia Cyprus Fiji Iceland Italy Mauritius South Africa Sri Lanka   Why do People Get Married Abroad If you ever needed more convincing, here are more reasons why people get...
Tips For The Perfect Wedding Speech

Tips For The Perfect Wedding Speech

The Fear Glossophobia, otherwise known as the fear of public speaking, is one of the most common anxieties affecting approximately 75% of adults. As a result, some of the most important public speaking occurrences will be crippled by the symptoms that accompany this fear. However, if the speaker has a carefully planned out discourse of speech, these fears can begin to fade. Most importantly, in the realm of weddings, you can’t let this fear stop you from delivering an awe-inspiring wedding speech that will bring guests to laughter and tears all in one transcended experience. The Cure Marketing Manager Patrick Kelly from the Sheraton Athlone Hotel has created a formula to writing the perfect wedding speech (in the most visually appealing way). Too much pressure?? Don’t be overwhelmed, the steps we’re about to walk you through will keep you out of the “bad speech that almost ruined a wedding day” category (aren’t you relieved you stopped by)! For the Men… Let’s break it down: DO thank guests and family members for helping make this day possible DO compliment bridesmaids and bride DO make a toast to the happy couple DON’T read straight off of a piece of paper DON’T tell inappropriate stories about the bride or grooms past For the Women… Let’s break it down (Part 2): DO keep ladies speeches short and sweet DO thank people who have personally helped make this day so special DON’T tell unfavourable jokes or ill stories about the groom, no matter how true they may be DON’T try to make the speech sentimental if it does not come naturally to you Feeling more confident? I can just hear...

How to Successfully Plan a Fairy Tale Wedding

There can be nothing more memorable than celebrating your special day with the fairy tale wedding you have dreamed about since you were a little girl. While all aspects of planning your wedding are important, there are five key components that need to be at the top of your priority list: 1. Pick the fairy tale theme you desire. As a young girl your perfect fairy tale wedding might have been having your prince arrive on horseback and whisk you off to live happily ever after. Some people like to incorporate fairy tale elements into a “steam punk” themed wedding. Others might want every element of their wedding to follow their favourite childhood story. Essentially, a fairy tale wedding theme can be anything you dream up and conceive. 2. Retain the services of experienced Toronto wedding planners. Pulling off a successful fairy tale wedding with all the “bells and whistles” requires help from a professional team of wedding planners. Experienced planners are knowledgeable about a wide array of themes, vendors, and more to ensure your special day has every element you desire, down to the finest details. 3. Select the ideal wedding venue to match your fairy tale theme. The venue should incorporate your theme. For instance, if you want to get married in a castle, you will want to find a venue that looks like an actual castle. Your wedding planner is willing and able to help scout out locations, or they could even know of the perfect one to use due to their knowledge. 4. Choose a photographer and videographer to capture every breathtaking moment. No fairy...

Often ceremonies are smaller when holding your nuptials far away as certain guests will be unable to attend, making it less costly. No matter your reasons for considering one, read on for our list of destination wedding tips. Planning is Crucial  Failed plans at a wedding can leave yourselves with less than perfect memories of the event. Don’t spoil your big day and plan in advance. Don’t forget to renew all the passports well in advance and the sooner you book your flight the better deal you are likely to get. Count Your Guests Before Reserving That Venue You should have a good idea of how many people will actually make the trek to your destination wedding. Venue costs can spike up in price depending on their size and property. Don’t overpay for a small crowd but also don’t disregard guests that haven’t just yet RSVP’d. Be sure that your venue won’t be overflowing with people or empty! Research, Research, Research Legal requirements for marriage may differ depending on...

Why Hire the Best Toronto Wedding Planners

Planning the perfect wedding is not a task to take on entirely yourself or delegate to your friends and relatives. If you attempt to plan every aspect of your wedding on your own, it will lead to stress, frustration, and anxiety because you will be spending so much time on every single detail of your special day. You will not have time to relax and truly look forward to your wedding day. Delegating your wedding planning to friends and family members could be equally disastrous. While you appreciate their efforts to volunteer and provide their assistance to take care of the details for your wedding, what typically occurs, is they start to plan how they would envision their wedding if they are not married, or rely upon their own wedding and what they would have changed to plan yours. When you get a bridesmaid or other family member who takes over your wedding, it can lead to disagreements and arguments, especially if they stop listening to YOUR wants, needs, and desires. It is for these reasons, you should retain the services of a qualified and experienced wedding planning service in Toronto. To ensure you choose the best wedding planners for your special day, you need to make sure they will listen to your vision and follow your directives. Start by arranging an initial consultation appointment with the wedding planner. During this meeting, ask them to provide references for other weddings they planned, a detailed list of services they offer, and what contacts they have within the industry. The last thing want to have to do is spend additional time...

Who is BPM Krew, you might ask? Well today we will be interviewing Julia one of the lead singers of the band to find out what they are all about. —- Q: What Does the “BPM” in BPM Krew Stand For? A: BPM stands for beats per minute. Q: How did BPM Krew Begin? A: BPM Krew started off as another band called “Cilantro” (like the plant)! One of our previous bass players joined Cilantro and took it over renaming it to BPM Krew. He wanted to make it into a pop/top 40 style band, and move from only performing in the corporate world into more weddings/bars/colleges. Q: What is the inspiration behind your outfits? A: We wanted to create something young and urban, which led us to wearing white graphic t-shirts with black pants and purple varsity jackets. When we walk in to venues altogether we look just like a college football team- you can definitely pick us out of the crowd! Q: What are your top three favourite mashups with the group? #1 Happy- Pharrell vs. Janelle Monae vs. Bob Marley Mashup We actually did this video 48-hour mashup challenge where we shot...
What a Typical Canadian Wedding Looks Like

What a Typical Canadian Wedding Looks Like

What a Typical Canadian Wedding Looks Like Our friends over at the Lakeshore Convention Centre have created an infographic about “What a Typical Canadian Wedding Looks Like”. In this blog we will break down the graphic to give you more information about these statistics! The Most Popular Month to Get Engaged The most popular month to get engaged is the chilly winter month of December. The entire winter period is actually referred to as “engagement season” (October- February) by some across North America. It has deservingly been coined this way because the season stretches over major holidays starting off with Thanksgiving, reaches its peak with Holiday Celebrations like Christmas, Hanukah and Kwanza then ends with a bang on Valentines Day. Creating that special moment has also become a popular way to make it through the “winter blahs” with some new bling on that left hand as a reason to party with your best girlfriends while salivating over thoughts of the big day. The Average Age on the Wedding Day According to our very own Arthur K at Fusion Events, millennial babies are much more cautious in tying the knot because of the high divorce rate among their parents, and want to live together before taking the plunge. Our couples at Fusion are together for about 6 years before they come to us to start the wedding preparations. Business Insider has followed that sentiment as they report people are deciding to live alone for several years, and more young adults are focusing on higher education before considering marriage. Essentially, this generation is about more me time and less we time, pushing the average ages on...
Destination Wedding: India – Inspirations

Destination Wedding: India – Inspirations

Destination India I recently attended a destination wedding in India, which took place in a heritage palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan. And yes, it was everything you think a Bollywood wedding should be! The royal treatment starts from the beginning, when you are greeted with a garland made from marigolds. The magnificent palatial architecture of Chomu Palace created the perfect setting for a magical wedding. For Indian brides the festivities include multiple events over the course of several days. The festivities kick off with the mendi (henna) ceremony which is still a significant tradition even for the modern Indian bride, it signifies beautification and is a chance for the bride to celebrate with her close family and friends. It usually takes place the evening before the wedding and it is when the bride is adorned with intricate patterns of henna, hand painted on to her arms and legs. This event was filled with music and dancing with rich, vibrant colours and textures and took place in the front garden of the palace. Decor accents included Rajasthani up-lit umbrellas lights, with puppets hanging from the trees. The seating ranged from gazebos and banquets to mattresses draped in satin with neon cushions. The tables were decorated with organza bows in kitsch contrasting colours.       The bride and groom made a grand entrance on a elephant lead by dancers dressed in tradition Rajasthani attire amidst a group of drummers and fire breathers. It was a spectacular royal procession up the red carpet as they made their way up to the swing seating on the stage. The traditional Rajasthani dancers gathered the crowds...

Planning Your Dream Wedding

If you are like most people, you have pictured and envisioned your wedding day since you were a little girl. You know exactly what you desire, from how you want to arrive and enter the ceremony to the colour of your wedding dress and bride’s maids’ dresses, and more. You might even picture a fairytale wedding at some exotic location, like an English castle in the UK or on the black sand beaches in Hawaii, which are just a few types of destination weddings. Planning a successful, beautiful, and elegant wedding can seem challenging if you attempt to do it all on your own. Enlisting help from your bride’s maids and family members could help. However, the people helping you could potentially try to take over your wedding and start planning it how they want it to be, not how YOU envisioned it from the very beginning. There are several things you can do to help ensure your special day is exactly how YOU want it. Before you start shopping for wedding dresses, picking out flowers, and sampling wedding cakes, the first thing you need to do is sit down with your fiancé and your families, if appropriate, and schedule an consultation appointment with a top Toronto wedding planning company, like Fusion Events. It is often beneficial to have an experienced and professional wedding planner on hand as you discuss what it is you picture for your perfect wedding. Your wedding planner can take into account what it is your desire, along with input from your fiancé, to ensure you both have a truly memorable wedding day. Some of...

Create A Snapchat Filter for Your Wedding

HOW TO CREATE A SNAPCHAT FILTER FOR YOUR WEDDING The day that you have been dreaming of your entire life is finally here and you are looking radiant as ever. Although you, your closest friends, mother and the rest of your bridal party will watch the magic unfold before their very eyes, the rest of your guests only get to see the finished product… Worry no more because Snapchat will let all of your guests create “wedding snap stories” of all ups and downs during your special day. Everyone will have the opportunity to act as their own videographer capturing a unique viewpoint that everyone can view on the app. Snapchat has “uped” their game enabling you to watch how the day unfolds, as well as allowing everyone to partake in the fun with a personalized wedding snapchat geofilter: How It Works: Step One: You can hire a graphic artist, ask a friend with a knack for graphic design or use one of their pre-made templates to create a filter while following the guidelines provided on the website. Step Two: After the filter is created, you can play around with the “On Demand” feature on the Snapchat website to figure out how much the cost will be. The cost ranges from $5.00- $1000.00~ depending on the size of the location, how many filters you want and the amount of time you want it to be available. The average cost for a wedding is around $25.00 USD. Step Three: As soon as you purchase it- CONGRATS- you have your very own filter to fulfill all of your guests’ wedding selfie needs.? Here are...
Fusion Event’s Roster VS Everybody – How Our Talent Compares To Well Known Acts

Fusion Event’s Roster VS Everybody – How Our Talent Compares To Well Known Acts

In order to properly understand a band’s musical stylings, you often have to compare them to one or multiple other acts. For example one might say Lady Gaga has the strong femininity of Madonna, the piano songwriting style of Elton John, and the experimentalism of David Bowie. Sometimes the band can very clearly paying homage to their influences either consciously or subconsciously, or the styling comes from the mixture of talent in the band. The types of instrumentation and how the musicians play their instrument can really reflect the style of music. Fusion Event’s has been curating a roster of talent for ten plus years. From our early days of God Made Me Funky to some of our latest additions to the roster like Freedom Train. Fusion Events has built relationships with some of the most skillful and professional musicians in the Greater Toronto Area. In doing so has acquired a very well rounded roster of talent for any style of event wether it be a wedding or corporate event. Here are a handful of bands that we represent, and how we’d best compare them to popular bands of past and present: God Made Me Funky  VS  Bruno Mars / Taylor Swift / Kendrick Lammar Have you ever taken a bunch ingredients that you individually loved, put them all together and found they are like having a party in your mouth. That’s what God Made Me Funky is all about. Imagine for a minute a super group made up of Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lammar. You have the funky soulfulness of Bruno, The poppy heartfelt-ness of Tylor...
Top Five Wedding Speech Tips from a Professional Speechwriter

Top Five Wedding Speech Tips from a Professional Speechwriter

Top Five Wedding Speech Tips from a Professional Speechwriter By Mary Korica (www.marykoricaspeechwriting.com) So you’ve been chosen to deliver a wedding speech—congratulations! That’s a big honour but, for most of us, also a source of jitters verging from mild to mega sweaty palms. Fair enough—composing a speech is not easy and talking in front of a roomful of people can be nerve-wracking. Here are a few handy tips for you to consider when you’re staring at that blank piece of paper: 1. Tell a story. Pick a theme and draw on that training from way back in elementary school: have an introduction, middle and conclusion. That’ll save you from rambling and help make sure your audience is following your message. Use specific anecdotes from real life that are related to the lovebirds/courtship/wedding/proposal/marriage/your friendship with the married couple, etc. This will be much more interesting for the audience than anything an internet search will dig up. 2. Bring the funny. It’s a party and not everything you write needs to be a tearjerker heartwarming anecdote. People are in the mood for a good time and ready to laugh. That said, wedding speech humour should be gentle. This is not the time to dig up old embarrassing moments that could have some people rolling in the aisles but make others cringe or, worse yet, hurt someone’s feelings. It’s worth considering whether you have a fair sense that everyone in the room will be laughing when you deliver the punchline—and then doublecheck with someone who has a good read on these things (possibly, but not necessarily, someone who thinks exactly like you)....
Top 4 Floral and Decor Trends for 2016

Top 4 Floral and Decor Trends for 2016

Shake off those winter blues, spring is in the air! Okay, yes it’s rainy and grey, but it won’t be long before we see the trees turning green and the flowers blooming. This also means that the wedding season is soon upon us, so if you are a bride-to-be and are still thinking about your decor and florals, I’m here to tell you about what is trending in the world of florals and decor this year. Brides are opting for a more free form loose bouquet, with spiky flowers or fruiting vines that give it a freshly picked look. Wild cascading florals and using more greens like flowering plants and blooming branches are popular, giving your decor a wild rustic look. For the eco conscious bride, use locally grown seasonally flowers. You can also use lightly fragrant herbs or petite seasonal fruits and vegetables, such as apples or pomegranates to add a natural element to your decor.                         Tone on tone explosion is trending this season. Having clusters of either the same or different types of flowers in the same colour, but with a slight colour variation in the midst of a luscious base of green foliage will add simplicity yet elegance to your decor. Emphasise the flowers by adding varying heights and using colours that complement each other. You can incorporate short vases with a few flowers or single stems. This works beautifully on long rectangular tables, which is also getting increasingly popular. If you want to give your space a more intimate vibe try mixing up the...
Tips for Choosing the Best Live Wedding Band in Toronto

Tips for Choosing the Best Live Wedding Band in Toronto

Besides walking down the aisle and saying your “I do’s” with your new spouse, the next biggest, memorable thing about your special day is the type of entertainment you select for your wedding ceremony. There are all sorts of different options from Toronto live wedding bands to DJs and other entertainers. In order to help you make the best possible decision, here are some useful tips and suggestions to get you started. Ask Your Toronto Wedding Planners for a Referral – Most professional wedding planners in Toronto are well-connected with live wedding bands, DJs, and other entertainers. Some even represent and manage their own bands, DJs, and entertainers, in addition to providing wedding planning services, like us, here at Fusion Events. Verify the Entertainer Is Insured – Some venues will require your entertainment have liability insurance in order to perform. All of the entertainers we represent and manage are fully insured. Never Base Your Decision on Price Alone – As with other things in life, including your wedding, you get what you pay for. If you opt to take the cheap route and choose the least expensive band or DJ, the results could not be what you expected and could quickly turn disastrous. On the other hand, selecting an entertainer, who inflates their prices for weddings, should be a concern, too. Ideally, you want to find a balance between the quality you receive and what you pay for the entertainment. Provide Clear Expectations – Bands, DJs, and entertainers should allow you to provide input and what it is you expect from them. If an entertainer seems inflexible and dictates what...
South Asian Wedding Traditions

South Asian Wedding Traditions

South Asian Wedding Planning Traditions Part 1 Now as we all know, you can’t help who you fall in love with and although Toronto is a pretty culturally diverse city, you still may not know what to expect with a South Asian Wedding. So I’m going to guide you through what the culture and traditions entail. Since there are many smaller cultures within South Asia, the weddings tend to have similarities but they do differ from each other in small rituals or traditions. I will be getting into the overall Indian bride and touching up on the Sikh culture as well.  Mehndi Ceremony Mehndi ceremony is an event that all Indian brides from different cultures all have, it takes place on the first night of a three-day wedding. There may be minor details that would be different but in general, it’s an event that is traditionally for the bride to celebrate with her closest female friends and family. There’s typically dancing, singing, music and food involved which makes this ceremony one to really enjoy. Sharing is caring, so not only does the bride get Mehndi done, but all her guests as well! An Indian bride looks anything but plain, beauty is a major factor of the bride’s traditions and with this ceremony, there’s no exception. Traditionally, the bride would have up to sixteen adornments on her, which completes the colourful, accessorized Indian bride look and Mehndi is one of them. Mehndi ceremonies consist of turmeric paste (a staining substance from the Henna plant, also found in curry and mustard to make its colour) being applied to the bride’s hands,...

A Wedding Planner/Bride’s Diary On Planning a Wedding

A Wedding Planner/Bride’s Diary On Planning a Wedding

This post is about a wedding-planner-bride-to-be – me! I got engaged in January of last year and just couple of days ago I realized that I am 4 months away from the day of the wedding aaaaand there is still a lot to do. Not only for the big day itself, but for at least 10 days around it, since some of my friends and my entire family will be coming from out of the country. My boss wants me to get blogging and I (like any bride) can talk about my wedding for hours and hours on end to whomever has the unfortunate thought of asking. So here you go! I should say I am picky. And balancing between the wedding being what my fiancé and I would want it to be (a day spent with 30 people max), what a wedding planner in me wants the venue to look like (to me Australians and New Zealanders know what’s up) and what my traditional Russian parents-in-law envisioned (have you ever been to a Russian wedding?) has been THE task to tackle. Needless to say, I’ve won most of the battles, getting the venue I loved being the biggest one. Downtown, brick walls, huge windows, a roof top, and all kinds of pipes on the ceiling (some of which my future father-in-law is convinced will fall on people). And most importantly – a completely blank space that I get to have fun with. Yay me! Since this blog better have some value for all of you brideys, I’ll share some information about the venue that’s stolen my heart –...
Asian Wedding Planner – Wedding Traditions

Asian Wedding Planner – Wedding Traditions

Asian Wedding Traditions Everything You Need to Know As a Toronto wedding planner we deal with a lot of different cultures here at Fusion Events, which to me is a beautiful thing. This means people interacting with people they usually wouldn’t interact with. Interracial dating moves into interracial weddings and not everyone is familiar with the traditions that follow these cultures. Yes, some may be a bit more outrageous than others but they’re all very important steps that contribute to the union of two people. Are you getting married to someone from the Asian culture? Also, do you know what their traditions are? If not, you’re about to find out. For this blog, I’ll be showing you two major wedding traditions in the Asian culture that you might find useful to know! Chinese Door Games Have you ever had to prove your love? Show your worthy of your beautiful bride? Well, when it comes to the Chinese weddings this is definitely something you must do to even see your bride on the wedding day! The point of the door games is to prove the groom’s love for his bride and also for his Hing Dai’s (groomsmen) to prove that they aren’t ready to let go of their friend so easily without a “fight”. The games that take place range from the guys singing the sappiest song for the bride to hear, to the groom eating/drinking something extremely sweet, extremely sour, extremely bitter and extremely spicy, which represents the stages of a marriage. There’s even a questionnaire where the groom must answer every question correctly regarding the precious bride and their relationship! The bride...

WEDLUXE Wedding Show 2016

WEDLUXE Wedding Show 2016 The Secret Gems Spotted by Fusion Events As Toronto wedding planners, Fusion Events is always trying to keep an eye out for emerging talent in our industry. At this year’s WedLuxe‘s wedding show hosted at the Carlu in Toronto on January 10th, I had the opportunity to explore the all the different vendors, and here are some of the gems I managed to find: Cleland Studios So much more than what you can do, is who you are as a person. Luke Cleland, immediately came off as a down to earth, good hearted guy who loves what he does. The kind of guy that you could imagine running into at a bar or cafe and think to yourself, “What a nice guy!” Not only that, but his photography was excellent! It was the perfect blend of airy, but with a hint of contrast. Nothing that looked too fake. All of his photos had a very happy feel to them. I couldn’t think of what else you would want on your wedding day.   Mr & Mrs Smith Boutique Hotels Collection A very cool and simple idea, Mr & Mrs Smith Boutique Hotels curates interesting and unique hotels around the globe, and offers them for couples looking to spend a romantic getaway with out staying at your conventional chain hotels. Weather you are planning your honeymoon or a vacation with a loved one, Mr & Ms Smith puts you up in these hotels and offer lots of fun things to see and do in the city you’re staying in.     Garrison Bespoke As I walked towards...
Lynn and Nan

Lynn and Nan

Lynn and Nan Vintage Garden Romance Lynn and Nan tied the knot in May 2015. They had a vision of an outdoor garden wedding ceremony. Unfortunately weather didn’t co-operate as there was a torrential downpour that came very quickly and unexpectedly. Thanks to an amazing team we were able to quickly move things indoors and still give them their soft, garden ceremony. With the amount of detail that was involved in this wedding (as you can see below), and the amount of time we had to set up, well….it took a small army and everyone was pleased with the outcome. Thankfully, we work with the best suppliers in the industry, the type that go above and beyond to make their clients not only happy, but ecstatic. Photography – Agi...

REMIX! Mashups and Medleys are taking over your event / wedding.

REMIX! Mashups and Medleys are taking over your event / wedding.

REMIX! Mashups and Medleys are taking over. Before we get into why and how Mashups and Medleys are taking over, lets first address what these mean. Mashup: Take the back bone to one hit song and add a catchy lyrical hook of another pop song, place one on top of the other, and assuming the two parts are the same tempo and are in the same key then boom, you have a mash up. Medley: Pick a theme: same artist, same genre, or just whatever is playing on the top of charts. You then play each song back to back to back. Not necessarily the entire song, usually just the chorus and hooks. Ideally songs that are in the same key or have similar tempo. Remix: While the technical term of a remix is to redo the mixing portion of a song, i.e. adjust the decibel levels of all musical components, most people strictly associate it with something a rapper would yell out mid way through a song from the 90’s, before breaking out into a 16 line generic rap. Never the less, a remix is altering a song to fit a different style, mood or genre. Alright, now that we know what those mean, we can move on to understanding why they are so important to use when it comes to the entertainment at your party / function. Weather you’re throwing a birthday party, celebrating your wedding or drunkenly dancing with Penelope from Financing at your company party, there’s two attributes that make the entertainment at your event exciting and memorable; Fresh & Familiar. Familiarity is what turns...
Spring Wedding Fashion Inspiration 2016

Spring Wedding Fashion Inspiration 2016

Spring Wedding Fashion Inspiration  Pantone’s 2016 Spring Colour Fashion Report   On our wedding day, we all know this is the day we want to look our best. Blow everyone away by putting on our pretty face, beautiful hairstyle, smashing shoes, amazing dress and our genuine happy smile. We say it’s the bride’s day but we definitely cannot forget our men. That means a fresh cut, nicely shaved face, fashionable shoes, and lastly a dapper suit or tuxedo. It can sometimes be hard to pick out your colour scheme for your wedding, and that affects your attire and many other aspects. Fortunately, we have guidance from Pantone’s Spring Fashion Colour Report that can help lead us in the right direction. Generally people wear clothes to show off their personality, tell the world how they are feeling that day and make it known how they are different from the rest. Therefore on the most important day of your life, when you’re facing the person you love, this is no exception. With Pantone’s Spring Palette selection the feelings that arise from the 10 colours are of calmness, optimism and neutrality. Also, according to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute “Colours this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves,” The 10 colours of Pantone’s Spring Fashion Report are as followed. For us women, our dress is essentially the most important part of the whole wedding besides marrying the love of our lives! And finding the right dress, that gives the right feel at this oh...
Wedding Planner Toronto – ArthurK Video Blog #1

Wedding Planner Toronto – ArthurK Video Blog #1

What started as a an experiment has turned into a video blog. I recently posed the question, “If you could as me one question on any topic, what would it be?” on my social channels. The response was overwhelming and most of the questions pertained to business, branding, and marketing. I originally asked the question to gage what people thought my area of expertise is. Clearly people in my network think I know something about business and branding…and I guess I do. It’s not something I ever studied but running my own business from an early age..well you just kind of have to figure it out. Over the years business has become a passion and I love sharing my knowledge and helping others in any way I can. So with out further delay here is instalment #1....
Meet our Friend Renee Strauss from “Brides of Beverly Hills”

Meet our Friend Renee Strauss from “Brides of Beverly Hills”

I had the pleasure of meeting celebrity bridal stylist and star of the hit show Brides of Beverly Hills, Renee Struass and Youngsong Martin (Wildflower Linen) a few months ago when I was invited to dinner by my friend Donald at the Park Hyatt. I couldn’t resist the invite because I had seen her speak at Wedding MBA in Vegas and she was so much fun. It turned out to be an intimate soiree with a handful of Toronto’s top wedding planners in attendance. We chatted away for a few hours getting to know each other and I learned that Renee is more than a reality TV star. She is a shrewd business woman and a lovely person. It was rather serendipitous that not long after that I was presented with the opportunity to bring her back to Canada for Canadian Special Events during “Canada Meet Week”. Together with Danielle and Tracey, co-founders of The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada, Paras Mehta (event designer extraordinaire), and Greg Bell from Decor and More we are teaming up to create a hub of wedding activity for wedding pros of all levels this year at the Canadian Special Events LIVE trade show on April 15’14. I will also be speaking on April 14’15 at 1:30pm. Planners can register for a free trade show pass at http://wwww.live.canadianspecialevents.com. We are also having a contest for a chance to have dinner with Renee Strauss, Youngsong Martin and a few of Canada’s leading wedding pros, including me, Paras Mehta, Danielle Andrews-Sunkel, and Tracey Manailescu. Fairytale Weddings – Inspiration What woman has not dreamed of her perfect fairytale wedding from when she was a little girl? Growing up to movies like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast makes us want that fairytale ending..or better yet I should say beginning as your wedding is the start of your fairytale. That magical, romantic, enchanted atmosphere that surrounds you, that flawless ball gown that makes you feel like a princess, the perfect shoes to match it, and last but not least, your Prince Charming! Some women end up changing their wedding theme when the time actually comes, but many women stick to making their initial dream wedding come true. When people hear the theme “enchanted fairytale”, some people may imagine it as “tacky” as they imagine everything pink, fluffy, and princess like. However, this theme can actually give you one of the most romantic looks at your wedding, and believe me, when using the right colour scheme and decor, it will look nothing but stunning! An important key to perfecting the look to this theme is choosing the right colour scheme. Blush, white, and lots of greenery. Adding hints of lavender or red will give it that warm, romantic atmosphere; along with – of course- lots and lots of candles. You can choose lavender for your uplighting and use artificial moss for some of the greenery. For your ceremony, have two floral arches, one at the beginning of the aisle and the other where you will meet your prince. Along the sides of the aisle, have candles set up and flower pedals spread from beginning to end....
Gay Wedding Planner Toronto – Allan and Derek

Gay Wedding Planner Toronto – Allan and Derek

I first met with Allan and Derek at Allan’s Bay St. office. It felt like a job interview for Google. They drilled with me questions about wedding planning, my experience, event design etc. I was honest with them that I had never planned a gay wedding. I thought I did a pretty good job at the meeting. I answered quickly, confidently and with authority.  Nope. I didn’t get the job. After following up a few times they emailed me to say they had gone in a different direction. A few months later Derek called me. He told me that they had gotten nowhere trying to plan the wedding themselves and they asked if they could change their minds and hire me for full planning. I agreed. Being a Gay wedding, and my first one, I definitely learned a lot throughout the process. Some traditions and wedding terminology don’t necessarily apply to two men. I definitely had to get my mind out of “Bridal” mode. I settled into my role quickly however and the planning was a lot of fun. Allan and Derek are a wonderful couple, you can see their lighthearted personalities in the pictures below. We had many long conversations over dinner and wine and they were truly a pleasure to work with. Their wedding was urban, colourful, fun, and unique….with hints of Canadiana (all the guests were from NYC and Brazil).  I hope you enjoy some teasers from our friends at Renaissance Studios.     About the author: ArthurK, WPICC –  has a long history of being involved in the events industry. Liberty Grand Artifacts Room – Andrea and Chris – Wedding

Liberty Grand Artifacts Room – Andrea and Chris – Wedding

Liberty Grand – Artifacts Room – Wedding Andrea and Chris’ Kickass White Wedding Andrea first came to us with a vision of a white blinged out wedding. A typical girly girl, Andrea has been dreaming about her wedding for many years. Her and her now husband Chris have a 4yr old son together and have been together for almost a decade. Needless to say this has been a long time coming. They hired ArthurK, Fusion Events lead wedding planner, to plan their special day. When Andrea first walked into the Liberty Grand’s Artifacts room it was a done deal. The flexibility of the space, the tremendous amount of lighting and production, and of course WHITE!!! Being a young modern couple the aesthetic of the room was a perfect fit for what they were looking for. The Bride and Groom got ready at the Thompson Hotel and had their reveal on the rooftop of the Thompson Hotel as well as some shots with their bridal party. A party bus allowed for several locations for photos…ad was simply good fun. We love party busses! Their ceremony and cocktail reception had live music provided by Fusion Events which included internationally renowned pianist Robi Botos. DJ Grouch kept the party going all night with a mix of Latino flavours, top40, reggae and so much more. Photos by: Rick...
Bridal Gowns for Fall and Winter – 2014/2015

Bridal Gowns for Fall and Winter – 2014/2015

Bridal Gowns for Fall and Winter – 2014/2015 “The” dress. It is arguably the most important garment a woman will ever wear. The frock she will don as she walks down the aisle to speak the vows that will solidify her commitment to her one and only. Some women will try on hundreds of dresses, while others will fall in love with the first one they slip on. Regardless of what the bride chooses, she will no doubt look stunning- all brides are beautiful, period! As the summer draws to a close, it is a delight for my eyes to see all the tantalizing designs that have come out of all the big houses for fall/winter 2014. Let us peak at some of the offerings, shall we? Monique Lhuiller Sigh. Everything she touches is gold. Clearly I found it challenging to select only a couple from this season’s collection. When I look at the threads below I think Grace Kelly, Jackie Onassis, Kate Middleton. The beading and appliqué work is TO DIE, the silhouettes immaculate, and the varying shades of blush, cream and silver offer something different in terms of palette. Lhuillier does it again this sason, like every season. Lhuillier is my bridal queen, all hail.  Naeem Khan Notorious for his extravagance and intricacies, Khan describes the gowns in this season’s collection as “…a once in a lifetime moment, a once in a lifetime dress…” Khan’s aesthetic this season focuses on plenty of meticulously executed details- layers of sequins, appliquéd florals, textured chiffon, complex embroidery … it really doesn’t end. The techniques employed in the execution of these designs...
Alternative Wedding Cake Ideas

Alternative Wedding Cake Ideas

Alternative Wedding Cake Ideas Traditionally baked and served to guests to symbolize luck for the newly-wed couple, wedding cake is an obvious addition to any post-nups reception. And who doesn’t love a scrumptious, spongey treat? I’ll happily take two slices, thank you very much. In recent years though, I can’t help but feel like I may be the lone cheerleader, sitting by myself on the bleachers with my sad little droopy banner (go cake go!). It seems that every wedding I attend these days boasts a fabulous, extravagant multi-tiered cake, which more times than not seems to go untouched by wedding-goers. While I believe this is truly a travesty, many guests at weddings seem to have opted out of the wedding cake. But why? Is it our ever-growing, health-conscious, carb-free obsessed society slowly rejecting the fatty yumminess of this decadent tradition? Or maybe the meals at weddings have become so lavish that there is simply no room left in guests’ bellies to indulge themselves in one more bite? Thankfully, I recognized the waning interest in cake at weddings before my own in October of 2013, and therefore decided that a small, modest two-tiered cake from one of the best pastry chefs in the city would suffice for my 150 guests. Well, it turned out to be more than enough as my husband and I enjoyed nearly all two-tiers for the six months following our blissful day (you’d be amazed at how great cake will keep if you wrap it up in some wax paper, stick it in a ziplock bag, and pop it in the freezer!). This begs the question,...
Toronto Wedding Planner – ArthurK on Global News

Toronto Wedding Planner – ArthurK on Global News

Toronto Wedding Planner – ArthurK on Global News   TORONTO- Seven years after brides complained about his conduct, a Mississauga-based wedding supplier was ordered to spend ten days in jail and pay $18,000 in restitution for breaching the Ontario Consumer Protection Act. Karl Usmani of Kitchener, Ontario was sentenced on July 3 by Justice of the Peace, Eileen Walker, of the Ontario Court of Justice. Usmani was convicted of engaging in an unfair practice, failing to refund payment within 15 days of notice of cancellation of the consumer agreement, and failing to provide a consumer with a proper contract containing the information required by the Consumer Protection Act. “We’re pleased with the result and this individual has been sent a strong signal that this is not the way to do business in the province of Ontario,” said David Orazietti, minister of government and consumer services. Global News first became aware of complaints against Usmani and Global Wedding & Events Co. Ltd. in 2007. His title at the time was officer and director of the company. In a news report in October of that year, several future brides said Usmani had accepted deposits but had not followed through with providing services. “It’s nine days before the wedding, I haven’t seen the flowers, just one centrepiece, it looks like crap,” said Tatiana Kouchil in 2007. She later hired other vendors to provide flowers, a limousine and photography services that she had originally planned to buy from Usmani, who accepted a $1,000 deposit. Other consumers, including Bones Arruda, complained Usmani and Global Wedding didn’t attend scheduled appointments. “If someone is not going...
New Wedding Traditions for “Alternative” Families

New Wedding Traditions for “Alternative” Families

New Wedding Traditions for “Alternative” Families Weddings are full of traditions, be it the bouquet toss, first dance, or even the ceremonial face full of cake. These traditions have been passed down from generations before us, with little variation from the customs and rituals that our parents and grandparents had at their wedding ceremonies. While these practices are what makes the whole event magical and timeless, society and families have changed and evolved since the time of our grandparents’ weddings. Many soon-to-be-wed couples come from different family situations than their parents, be it divorced parents, step-parents, same-sex parents, single parents, or other parental figures that had an impact on their lives. These family situations can cause much unneeded stress to couples, from the tradition of asking the bride’s father for her hand in marriage, to the traditional father-daughter dance at the wedding reception. While it is important to remember that the wedding day belongs to the bride and groom, it is also a very special day for parents and family. One dilemma many brides with alternative families face is who will be walking her down the aisle during the ceremony. Traditionally, this ritual is performed to signify the father of the bride literally passing “ownership” to the groom. I think we can all agree that although women are by no means owned by men and are perfectly capable of giving their own consent to be married, the tradition of a father walking his little girl down the aisle to her future husband is something many brides (and fathers) look forward to. But what happens when a bride has more...
Bridal Hair Trends – 2014

Bridal Hair Trends – 2014

Bridal Hair Trends 2014 Katie Wallbank chats hair with bridal stylist, Candice Irons Any bride knows the two staple wedding services that must be included in order to further enhance her natural beauty and elevate her overall look on her special day: make-up, and of course, hair! Those lady locks better be primped and pruned when you go marching down that aisle, and it’s in your interest to enlist the help of a professional to help best execute the look you’ve been dreaming of. After all, wedding photos are forever, and you can’t re-do that authentic moment. How to choose a style though? You will undoubtedly pin tons of gorgeous looks- up, down, half-up/half down, straight, curly, head pieces, mohawks… you get the drift. I wanted to learn more about, and hone in on the most up-to-date trends in bridal hair, so I turned to my network of fabulous people and was lucky enough to snag an interview with WPICC Alum, Candice Irons. Although she professionally started her career about 5 years ago, she has been doing hair since her high-school days. With a few hundred brides and bridal parties under her belt, Candice is my go-to hair girl when it comes to all things bridal hair (and all things hair for that matter). I met Candice almost 4 years ago when I stumbled into the salon she was working out of at the time to get my do blown out for my first date with my (now) husband. We immediately clicked. A total girl’s girl (I’m sure she does just fine with the gents too), Candice admits she...
5 Creative Ways to Tell Your Love Story

5 Creative Ways to Tell Your Love Story

Not every one of your guests knows how you have met, how you have fallen in love, and how your relationship has grown. While a love story video with your childhood photos and  relationship timeline is a popular choice, more and more couples are trying to showcase their creativity through telling their beautiful story in other ways. If you are one of those couples, let me give you some suggestions! Sharing your story is a great way to connect intimately with your guests. Some of them know you, some of them know your spouse-to-be, but making sure every single one of your favourite people knows who you are as a couple will make your wedding that much more memorable. Whichever idea you choose, don’t shy away from little personal details- just enough for your guests to understand that they are a part of something truly special. Have fun:) Sand Love Story  Photo credit: article.wn.com; Pinterest My personal favourite. It is elegant, unique and absolutely breathtaking. This gorgeous visual expression, accompanied by your favourite song will create a powerful experience for your guests. Your story can be presented in so many artistic ways, emphasizing details and emotions that could not be expressed via video or photo. Tip: order it before hand and present it as a video to save time.   Wedding Newspaper Photo credit:  Pinterest; confrttidaydreams.com; weddywood.ru 3 words: unique, old school, romantic. Send them with your wedding invitations or have them ready for your guests at the wedding. Why not create a crossword (my personal favourite part of the newspaper)? Choosing Your Wedding Ceremony Music

Choosing Your Wedding Ceremony Music

Choosing Your Ceremony Music Walking down the aisle is the most emotional part of the wedding for many brides. Those few steps to the man you chose to be your husband are the beginning of your lives together. Many brides choose to amplify this moment by having live music accompany their entrance. Why not pick the song that means a lot to both of you? With beautiful lyrics or melody or both? Why not have your song played by your favourite instrument, whether it is harp, saxophone, or spanish guitar? I have asked our accomplished musicians which ceremony songs had the most impact on them and I did not get a single identical answer! At Fusion Events we can always help you find and arrange the song that is a true reflection of your relationship, so that you and your guests will remember those moments! 1) What is the coolest/original/emotional songs you have performed at the ceremony? 2) What was/will be the song at your ceremony? 3) Any word of advice/comment for couples who are picking the songs for their ceremony? Jill Daley (violinist): 1) My husband and I played “Something” by the Beatles for a bride’s entrance and I thought it really captured the moment of the groom seeing his love for the first time on their wedding day perfectly. 2) I walked down the aisle to “Pavanne” by Gabriel Faure. It’s such a beautiful piece of music and sets a very serene mood. 3)I think the most important thing to remember when picking the music for the ceremony, is that the songs that are meaningful to you...

Wedding Floral Trends 2014 by Katie

Wedding Floral Trends 2014 by Katie

Wedding Floral Trends for 2014 Flowers – I honestly cannot picture a wedding without them. They immediately bring an air of elegance and a sense of liveliness to any décor scheme. The endless customizable possibilities in floral design allow you to showcase your creativity while complimenting your colour palette, elevating the overall aesthetic of your event. There are a few floral trends I will be watching this year that are sure to make any event a success! Cascading Table Centrepieces While a lot of the images plastered on the web reflect unlimited budgets or editorial shoots that aren’t even linked to a real life event, there are ways to recreate these looks to better suit a more realistic budget. Instead of using pricier (and in some cases, seasonal) flowers like peonies, dahlias, roses, and orchids, think about adding volume to a cascading table centrepiece with hydrangea or various foliage.  Texture, Texture, Texture A bride’s bouquet is her ultimate accessory. The various floral elements incorporated into bouquets today inspire unique shapes that are a far cry from the round, globe-like arrangements seen in bouquets of the past. For some extra pop, zip & pow, think outside the box- try air plants, succulents, berries, olive branches, lavender, and thistle. There are no rules, and when the right combinations are fused together, a fabulous, floral statement piece can be the result, which is bound to have the best kind of aesthetic impact on your special day! Varying Multiples While elaborate, high centrepieces have certainly been a staple on the wedding scene for years, why not delve into something a little different to separate...

Destination Wedding Planner – Top 5 tips for Couples

5 Tips For Couples Planning a Destination Wedding My name is Arthur and I am a recent groom.  Believe it or not, I am also a wedding planner, and shockingly enough – 100% straight!  You’re probably asking yourself how in the world I became involved in such a female, gay dominated business.  Truth is, I LOVE fabulous weddings.  C’mon, who doesn’t?  Wedding planning came quite naturally to me after I spent years performing as part of a band at various weddings. As the years went by, I began to organize wedding entertainment, which eventually evolved into full-blown wedding planning.  And now?  I own a successful wedding planning firm in Toronto. I recently (or many would say, FINALLY) married Laura, my girlfriend of 7 years, in gorgeous Jamaica at the Grand Palladium and Lady Hamilton Resort and Spa. I planned the entire trip and wedding from start to finish. Laura was more than happy to let me take the reigns, without even the slightest idea of what to expect over the many months leading up to our big day. The entire extravaganza was a complete surprise. As a man, wedding planner and recent groom, it’s no shock that I have a bit of insight to offer when it comes to planning a destination wedding.  And to help all of you somewhat clueless couples out there, I’ve put together my top 5 tips for those of you who are about to take the plunge! 1 – Hire a Professional Travel Agent Who Has Experience in Your Chosen Location  The last thing you need as you plan your destination wedding is added...

Toronto Wedding Planner – Design Tools

Toronto Wedding Planner – Design Tools Hello Fusion Events blog readers. Today I am going to give you a look at one of the amazing tools that we use to help us create designs and floor plans for our events. Too often we are provided with hand drawn floor plans from venues or vendors that are not to scale. This can be a major issue when you are trying to create a unique design/floor plan for an event. Lately we are hearing from our  clients that they don’t want the traditional room layout with all round tables. Rectangular, square, and even oval shaped tables are more inclusive and promote conversation better than round tables. With our 2D and 3D event design software we can create layouts that are 100% to scale. What does that mean? It means that if it works on paper it will 100% work in reality (unlike hand drawn floor plans). Another wonderful thing about this software is that we can easily assign seats and move them around. This is especially helpful if you want to do assigned seating. Say goodbye to bristol board and cut outs! We love being able to walk our clients through a 3D rendering of their wedding and reception before it happens. This gives clients a level of security they simply could not achieve from a hand drawn floor plan. Here are some examples of the possibilites: This Blog was brought to you by Fusion Events CEO and Lead Planner – ArthurK ArthurK has a long history of being involved in the events industry. As one of the founding members of...
Top Toronto Wedding Band – GOD MADE ME FUNKY

Top Toronto Wedding Band – GOD MADE ME FUNKY

Today we are featuring a Fusion Events band that has truly set itself apart from the rest. Originally conceived in 1997 by Fusion Events founder ArthurK and a few friends, GMMF was never intended to be a “wedding band“. The band started playing in clubs all across Toronto and very quickly developed  a massive following. As a result the band started to get requests from fans to play at their weddings. With no advertising or marketing GMMF has become Toronto’s most in demand wedding and events band, simply by word of mouth. In addition to being a “cover” band, GMMF has succesfully made the transition to an “original act” . They released their first original album in 2005 to critical acclaim. In 2008 God Made Me Funky was nominated for a Juno Award for “Best R&B album”. They have toured extensively across Canada and the U.S and have headlined many jazz festivals and have performed with international superstars such as INXS (2010 Winter Olympics), George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Afrika Bambatta, Divine Brown, Jully Black, Maestro Fresh Wes, Guru (Jazzmatazz/Blackstar), Sean Kingston and many more. Most Recently God Made Me Funky headlined the 2014 New Years Eve Celebration at Nathan Phillps Square with an estimated 50,000 people in attendance. The band is currently in the studio working on their 6th studio album and are still entertaining at many weddings and corporate events. If you are looking for an energetic, fun, and incredibly tight band for an event or party consider GMMF. It’s a guaranteed party!  Price range for events starts at $5k. Here is a recent engagement party the band...

Imperial Russian Themed Wedding – Tsar/Czar Themed Wedding Inspiration

Russian Tsar Themed Wedding Inspiration As a Russian wedding planner in Toronto I have always wanted to create a Russian Inspired wedding. When one thinks of a russian wedding images of Russian Doll, lots of food on the tables, and, of course, vodka immediately come to mind. However, Russian tradition and history is so broad and deep that you can derive inspiration for your wedding day from so many sources. Be it Imperial Russia, Russian Folklore, themes from literature, such as well-known in the west Anna Karenina or Doctor Zhivago, themes from music, such as Swan’s Lake or Nutcracker, just to name a few. Today I would like to talk about the already mentioned Imperial Russia. The year 2013 commemorates 400 years since the first Romanov Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov acceded to the throne. It is one of the important dates in the modern russian history. During the Romanov’s rule Russia became the largest state in the world and one of the greatest empires in the history of human civilization. Of course, it’s status was reflected in the thrive of culture, literature, pictorial art, architecture, music, and ballet. Gold and red are the colours that symbolize the wealth and confidence of that era. Using shades of gold and red will make your decor look especially festive and regal. Adding accents of the colors of precious stones such as emerald, sapphire, or even black will make the decor look that much more elegant. Use a lot of light and candles for the gold elements to play beautifully in the light. If you chose Imperial Russia as the theme for you...

Wedding Guest Book Ideas

Wedding Guest Books Ideas You Will Appreciate and Admire Long gone are the days where you bought a pre made wedding guest book ….remember attending a wedding back in the 90’s where you wrote in an ugly bound book and all that was inside were lines for you to sign your name and date the entry?  Awful, and impersonal are the words that come to my mind. Ive talked in previous blogs about how to personalize your wedding…..Well, your wedding guest book is no exception!  Be sure to get creative when it comes to your guest book.  It will give guests something to talk about, and remember, and most importantly, it will ensure that YOU will admire, appreciate and treasure it throughout your marriage. The collage above is a collection of a few of my favorites.  Pick something that suits your personality, and style.  Make it personal, make it sweet. The poster shown in the top right corner can be created in Photo Shop and printed at your local Staples.  You can grab ink at a craft store in different colours, and guests will have fun leaving their fingerprints! The wishing stones are a cute idea for the adventurous couple, or perfect for an out door wedding.  They don’t leave a lot of space for guests to write a msg, but a signature or cute doodle makes for a nice keepsake. The wishing tree and wishing jars have become very popular for engagement parties, showers and weddings.  The msg in a bottle shown in the collage is a creative take on the wish tree.  Its easy to store, and...

Grand Palladium Wedding Jamaica – The Rehearsal Dinner Alternative

Grand Palladium Wedding Jamaica – Replacing the Rehearsal Dinner Todays Blog is brought to you from Fusion Events very own lead planner ArthurK. Not only was he the planner for this wedding but also the groom…enjoy: Well the dust has settled and I am now a married man! I wanted to share some tips and tricks with you that I picked during the planning process. This will be done over the course of several blogs. I did want to jump right to one of my favourite parts of our Destination Wedding week at the Grand Palladium and Lady Hamilton Resort and Spa. In lieu of having a traditional “wedding rehearsal” I really wanted to do something that included all the guests and not just our immediate families, and I wanted somethign fun. Not just a group dinner in a restaurant….boring!! This gave us an opportunity to spend more time with all our guests as a group. So what did we do? We had a beach party with a  live Mento Band and Bonfire! Since we didn’t really have much of bridal party and since I have conducted many rehearsals in my day, we went over the ceremony quickly with those involved before hand and it went off without a hitch! When I booked the “bonfire” I had no idea what I was getting. I was expecting a camp fire that we would all sit around. No. It was a massive display of a bonfire. It was breathtaking and certainly a “WOW” factor. As guests entered the Gully Beach their breath was taken away by this beautiful bonfire set up...

Candy Buffet and Sweet Tables for Weddings

Candy Buffet and Sweet Tables for Weddings Who doesn’t love candy?  Sweet, Salty, Chewy, Hard, Ill take my candy any way it  comes, and nothing is more fun at a party than a Candy Buffet.  Sweet tables and Candy Buffets are a big trend at weddings lately and its no wonder why! Candy tables can be a lot of fun to put together and guest will just go nuts over them.  The possibilities are endless and in my opinion, when it comes to candy, you can never have too much! Building a candy buffet can be an enjoyable task.  You can create a bit of nostalgia with certain types of candy, and you can have gusts excited and delighted.  Candy buffets can fit within your colour scheme, or theme, and they can be a great parting gift for guests…..that is if they don’t devour it all before the end of the night! Sweet Tables are edible wedding decor! To create a visually appealing candy bar, use containers of varying height and size.  Choose a minimum of 9 different candy options, and cut it off at 15.  This will ensure a good variety and a table that is not too crowded or overwhelming.  Be prepared to buy large quantities of each candy for visual effect. Have a good selection of different types of candy…..chocolate, hard candies, gummy candies, jelly beans, licorice, lollypops, caramels and mints…..When selecting candy,  also consider your guests age.  Adults love nostalgic types of candy, while kids will flock to gummies and sours. Colour schemes don’t just apply to the flowers, and bridesmaid dresses.  Matching your candy to...

Lighting for Weddings and Events….What you MUST know!

Please enter a valid address, since we cannot show a map due to lack of coordinates.

Lighting For Weddings and Events One of the most effective yet forgotten about methods of making an event come to life is lighting. Whether it be atmospheric, projecting your logo/ monogram, or simply allowing guests to see certain key areas that you want to draw their attention to, lighting for weddings and events is a very important detail that shouldn’t be overlooked. I had a chance to sit down with Fusion Events very own lighting designer, Sam Fleming, to speak about how he applies science, art, and common sense to create a perfect atmosphere at your wedding using just lighting, and why you should NOT put your DJ in a corner! How does lighting design for weddings and event integrate into entertainment? I’m passionate about this stuff because if we already going to do the event, we are already DJing and need our sound system and technician, so let’s make it look beautiful too. You can have all the fancy décor you want, but if the space isn’t lit properly it’s just a dark room. I’ve come from the theatre side of entertainment, so let’s picture the whole room blacked out and put lights just where you want people to look. You need to focus their attention on the centerpieces, podium and head table to start. Then the dance floor needs specials if you want to get people dancing and show off the venue too. Often you want to pick architectural features like pillars for example. Also, you want to have dimmable lights for dinner, as you want your guests to see the colour of the food, but bring them...

Art Gallery Wedding Venues Toronto – Review

Todays Blog post is brought to you by Erica Reavell, WPICC: Getting married downtown Toronto means choosing a wedding venue that is both unique and inspiring.  Options in a city as large as Toronto are endless, and more couples today are moving away from the traditional banquet halls and are opting for Art Gallery Wedding Venues.  Wedding venues in downtown Toronto  range in price and size, so its just a matter of choosing the one that is right for you. This blog focuses on venues within museums and art galleries.  Both are unconventional venues, perfect for couples who are seeking an urban contemporary vibe for their big day. Museum and Art Gallery weddings offer the chance to explore a range of interesting historical collections as well as a variety of art.  Many museums and art gallery are set in beautiful buildings some modern, others classical, both interesting and elegant. Most galleries can accommodate both the ceremony and reception.  The art can act as automatic decoration and can add to the ambiance to create a guest experience steeped in culture.  You will be able to entertain your quests along side internationally renowned art, dazzling architecture and spectacular views of Toronto’s skyline.  Galleries and museums are venues appropriate for any size of event. You can find many fabulous art gallery venues scattered through the city.  There are the big museums like the AGO, The Gardiner Museum, and the ROM.  There are also many smaller gallery spaces with a more intimate atmosphere, located in and around downtown Toronto.  Each space offers something different, so it really comes down to personal preference. Art...

Halloween Themed Party Ideas

Halloween Themed Party Ideas We were contacted very last minute to plan a Halloween themed party for 160 guests, including 60 children at a private residence this past Sunday. The client wanted constant entertainment to keep both kids and adults  happy. We had a strolling magician roaming for the adults. Amazing balloon creation by Baldini. We had a children’s performer, Charlie Kurt, who brought instruments and conducted music time. Creature Quest also came and brought some amazing animals that the kids could actually hold and touch…this is was a huge hit for parents and kids! There was a pumpkin and cupckae decorating station and an amazing candy buffet. The event was fully catered by Pepperberry Catering who brought an amazing BBQ menu for everyone to feast on. The caterer came up with some really fin ideas to go with the theme (pics below). When throwing a themed party the important thing is to have fun with it! A lot of the best elements of this party were DIY’d. For example, the cupcake and pumpkin decorating is a cost effective and fun activitiy for adults and kids alike! Have some other great Halloween Theme ideas? What are they?...

TORONTO WEDDING PLANNER – ArthurK – Modern, Contemporary Event Planning Today’s Blog is by Certified Toronto Wedding Planner, Erica Reavell, WPICC: At the age of 32 ArthurK already has 17yrs in the wedding and events industry as a toronto wedding planner. His career started at the age of 15 as a professional saxophonist working in professional bands where the average age was 3 times his own. TORONTO WEDDING PLANNER – French Inspired Wedding Theme – Inspiration

TORONTO WEDDING PLANNER – French Inspired Wedding Theme – Inspiration    Today’s blog is brought to you by Fusion Events very own Interior Designer and Certified Toronto Wedding Planner, Erica Reavell, WPICC: My inspiration for this blog comes from my friend Victoria who is crazy for all things French/Parisienne.  Of course it would be fitting for her to have a French themed wedding and so I put together an inspiration board representing what her wedding might look like.  I excitedly showed her what I had envisioned for her big day…..”you had me at baguette” she replied, which meant that the rest was spot on.  This inspiration board ties sophisticated french country charm with lavish elegance. The romantic french lace invitation was the starting point for this board .  The vintage post cards below can be a great alternative to the traditional guest book ideas, or could be used as unique thank you cards.  The subtle cream and lavender flowers in the bouquet are rustic and romantic which tie into the elegant table decor. From the bouquet to the table arrangements and decor, to the green and cream French Macaroon favors, all textures and colours come together to create a cohesive event design. Now you may be asking, How do you bring France to Toronto’s concrete landscape?  I believe that designing the perfect French inspired wedding begins with the perfect Toronto Wedding Venue, and a few fine details.  The Fermenting Cellar in the Historic Distillery District would be the perfect place because it exudes a vintage/rustic feel, and is one to Toronto’s most romantic wedding venues.  A converted building from...

Berkley Church Wedding by ArthurK – Erin and Aaron

Toronto Wedding Planners Review – REAL WEDDINGS – Erin and Aaron Erin + Aaron – Sep 15’12 – The Berkeley Church Erin and Aaron originally came to Fusion Events looking for a great Wedding Band. After proposing a few ideas and taking them to see a few bands they fell in love with God Made Me Funky band and booked them for their wedding at The Berkeley Church (One of our favourite Downtown Toronto Wedding Venues).  After having a few meetings with them to discuss the music and entertainment it became apparent that they were in need of some help to plan the wedding and hired us on to execute their vision. The theme of the wedding was a modern, vintage inspired fete with a graphite and pale pink colour palette. It was a beautiful day on Sept 15, 2012. After the ceremony at the St Basil’s Church, the couple and their bridal party hopped on a double decker bus and then rode in style to the venue while taking pictures along the way. Erin and Aaron’s wedding reception was full of small personal touches, from hand made napkin rings made of pearls, table numbers consisted of couple’s pictures, customized drink menus to candle holders decorated with lace, and custom made gift box covered with pics of the Bride and Groom. It was truly a pleasure to work with Erin and Aaron, they are a fun, modern, artistic, and tech savvy couple(in other words our ideal couple!!). We love working at the Church on Berkeley. Built in 1871, The Berkeley Church is one of Toronto’s most original venues. Hard...

Top Toronto Wedding Planners – REAL WEDDINGS Cristina + Simon Paige – Aug 18’12 – Park Hyatt Toronto What a treat this wedding was to plan! The bride and groom live in London, England so much of the planning was done via phone and facetime….gotta love technology! As a Toronto Wedding Planning Comapny we always look for clients that will put their faith and trust in us. In this case Christina and Simon put their complete faith and trust in us and let us do what we do best….plan and execute weddings!! Cristina and Simon are a lovely couple that had an idea of what they wanted for their wedding reception but didn’t have the experience, contacts, and time to execute their vision. We started the event design process with an inspiration board which they loved! You can see how we went from the inspiration board to the final product. Of course there were some changes along the way but having some images that everyone agreed on was extremely helpful in the design process. We were fortunate enough to assemble and all star cast of partners to make this event successful including; Assaf Friedman (Phtoography), DMS Video (videography), Park Hyatt (venue), FOS Decor (Decor), International Florists (All florals), The Caketress (Wedding Cake), and of course Fusion Events (Design, Planning, Entertainment, and Production). Toronto Wedding Venue – Arcadian Court

We were invited by Oliver & Bonacini to their open house at their new Toronto Event Venue Arcadian Court and Arcadian Loft yesterday. It was by far one of the most upscale and elaborate open houses we have ever attended. I have to give it up to O&B for an amazing job. There was great entertainment, loads of food stations, photobooths, sweet tables, hip-hop-dancers, Dj’s, Bands, Greeters and more. They really rolled out the red carpet for this. The venue has recently undergone a major renovation which has brought it back to it’s original Art Deco glory (the venue opened in 1929). They had already pretty much sold out every Saturday in 2013 before the immense renovation took place. Needless to say they did a great job, We already have several clients that have booked here and can hardly wait to work at this new and improved venue! Here is a video tour of the open house: By: ArthurK,...
Mint to be – Intimate Farm Wedding

Mint to be – Intimate Farm Wedding

This week’s wedding inspiration comes to you from Fusion Events Certified Wedding Planner, Jessie Huang, WPICC. If you are a shopaholic like me, you have probably noticed, MINT, is one of the most popular colors for this year. I love mint because  this color has such a fresh and vibrant hue. For couples who are not afraid to step out of their color safety zones, why not consider hosting a fashion forward minty wedding! The ambiance of this wedding is casual, intimate and nature inspired. I chose the ceremony and reception venue at a beautiful farm where the couple and their guests can get away from the busy city life. The bride is dressed in an elegant ivory lace gown complemented by an off white rose bouquet with mint accents. She will arrive at the ceremony in a vintage wedding car painted in bright mint. The groom and groomsmen are dressed in light earth tone linen suits. The groom stands out with a white tie and a mint rose boutonniere among groomsmen in mint ties and white rose boutonnieres. During the cocktail hour, guests will mingle at the backyard of the farm, provided with freshly squeezed mint lemonade and Stacked Tomatoes & Buffalo Mozzarella and Artichoke & Spinach Dip. The catering would be all organic from local farmers. To be more creative with the resources, freshly picked green apples are used as seating cards for the reception! If you can’t resist the freshness of the apple, feel free to have a bite. The wedding reception is held outdoor and begins just when the sun is about to set. Tables are decorated with flowers...

Toronto Wedding Venues Review – Scarpetta Toronto

By Dana Mattar, WPICC. Last week we were invited to Toronto Wedding and Corporate Event Venue , Scarpetta Restaurant at the Thompson Hotel, for a tasting of their delicious food and tourthe space for our wedding and corporate event clients. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, this Italian restaurant, which first opened in Manhattan, has topped various “Best New Restaurants” lists. After tasting the food there, this is not surprising at all! Scott Conant, who is the Executive Chef of all Scarpetta Restaurants, runs and overseas the Toronto branch. Upon our arrival at Scarpetta, we were greeted with a glass of Champagne. Different breads, along with different dips, were then brought to the table. The three dips were butter and Marscapone cheese, citrus olive oil, and eggplant and tomato. For the main courses, our waitress put together a tasting menu of the most popular dishes from the menu so we could get the chance to sample a selection of their top menu items. After they cleared away the bread, appetizer plates paired with a glass of Feudi Di San Gregorio 2010 followed. This white wine has a rare Italian grape that you will not find anywhere else except in a small region of Italy. For the appetizers, we had Crispy Vegetables, Burrata Salad, Braised Short Ribs of Beef over seasonal vegetables and risotto, and Creamy Polenta with shallots, mushrooms & truffle, and chicken stock. Every appetizer we tried was absolutely delicious! For our first main course, we had Duck & Foie Gras Ravioli, and one of their signature dishes, the Spaghetti with tomato and basil paired with a...
